Kid’s Activities in Newcastle

Newcastle upon Tyne has gained a reputation as a top destination for groups and parties, usually looking for a good night out. Increasingly, the city and environs has developed into a family oriented holiday and short break destination too. There is plenty in Newcastle to keep the kids busy and entertained from the many children’s theatre events staged at the numerous Newcastle theatres to the cinemas and attractions of the renovated Quayside, Metro Radio Arena, and Metro Shopping Centre with it’s cinema multiplex and other family attractions.

Newcastle Museums have long lost their stuffy image and offer lots of interactive and educational exhibits designed to thrill and inspire young minds. The Discovery Museum is one such attraction offering everything from celebrity clothing displays to steam driven ships, and the Life Centre puts a scientific slant into educational entertainment. Boys and girls alike love the Military Vehicle Museum and Newburn Motor Museum. The regenerated Quayside development is geared for families with many leisure facilities on offer including the Seven Stories Centre for children’s literature.

Although Newcastle is a vibrant bustling city, children’s activities are not determined solely by the city life, with open green spaces and gardens ideal for family day‘s out and picnics. The City Farm in Byker offers a popular respite from the more hectic surroundings, and a great way to have a kid’s party is by taking them horse riding at the Moorey Spot Stables, where fun is the key element in learning how to ride and all about horses.

Whatever time of year you visit Newcastle there will be something on offer for the kids, either by seeing the latest pop megastars at the Metro Radio Arena, taking in a show or film at one of the many theatres or cinemas or visiting the leisure centres and swimming pools. When planning your family visit to Newcastle, consider the kid's activities listed here.
